President Koch called the Regular Meeting of the NFV Board of Education to order at 5:33 pm.

Roll Call of Board members: Present: Rodgers, Nelson-Lerch, Klosterman, McGrane, Marcks,  Schultz, & Koch.     

President Koch welcomed and invited comments from the Public.  

The agenda was approved with the addition of the resignations of Renn Trumblee-custodial; Jon Kullen-Varsity Girls Wrestling, and new business of approving the cooperative swim agreement with Decorah as presented.  McGrane/Schultz  Motion Carried 7-0

Public Forum:  

Motion to approve the amended consent agenda with the following items:

  • Minutes of March 11, 2024, Regular Meeting
  • Minutes of March 25, 2024, Special Meeting
  • Review/approve invoices (Reviewed by Kris Marcks)
  • Approve Financial Reports

COMMUNICATIONS

The NFV TAG department submitted a report, but the student presenting was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict. 

Student member Avery Donnelly reported on spring sports and Fine Arts solo/ensemble contest results.  Brooklyn Hoey reported on the Chicago senior trip, ISASP testing, spring fling, and prom. 

High School Principal, Mr. Miller, reported on continued work on handbook updates and completion of ISASP testing.  He included an update on the Conditions for Learning Survey, Senior Trip, schedules for the 2024-25 school year, prom, and some math course decisions regarding Algebra.  Middle School Principal, Mr. Gearhart, reported on upcoming ISASP testing, Conditions for Learning survey, highlights on the use of Instructional Coaches and the support they provide teachers, concussion ImPACT testing, and various activities organized by the Culture Club.  Elementary Principal, Mr. Elliott, updated the board on the upcoming TigerHawk Family Night, Kindergarten roundup, Leader in Me assembly, upcoming ISASP testing, and 3rd grade West Union elementary student transition to the Valley campus next school year. 

Curriculum Director Nefzger reported on ISASP testing, Conditions for Learning survey for students and then parents, and the next meeting for the School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) on April 24, 2024. 

Business Manager Stansbery reported on FY25 budget process, FY25 contract finalization, and year-to-date revenues compared to expenditures. 

Superintendent Griffith updated the board on legislative updates regarding AEAs and minimum teacher salary.  Mr. Griffith also thanked the Sheriff’s office for coordinating their K9 training with the district.

NEW BUSINESS

The board approved and adopted the FY25 certified budget.  McGrane/Nelson-Lerch Motion Carried 7-0

The board approved the following FY25 Budget Guarantee: RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of North Fayette Valley Community School District, will levy property tax for fiscal year 2024-2025 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under section 257.14, Code of Iowa.  Nelson-Lerch/Schultz  Motion Carried 7-0

The board approved the 2024-2025 German Trip.  McGrane/Klosterman  Motion Carried 7-0

The board approved summer band lessons for June 2024.  Nelson-Lerch/Schultz Motion Carried 7-0

The board approved summer school for summer 2024.  Schultz/Rodgers Motion Carried 7-0

The board approved the location of the music concerts to be the performing arts center located at the high school.  Klosterman/Schultz  Motion Carried 6-1, Nelson-Lerch dissenting vote. 

The board approved the listing of summer maintenance projects. Schultz/Nelson-Lerch Motion Carried 7-0

Superintendent Griffith reviewed the draft elementary class size for 2024-2025.  The board approved the FY25 class size as recommended.  Schultz/Rodgers Motion Carried 7-0

Director Marcks left the meeting at 6:20PM. 

The board approved FY 2025 Contracts and Work Agreements.  Klosterman/Schultz  Motion Carried 6-0

The board approved the Cooperative Swim Agreement with Decorah.  Nelson-Lerch/Schultz Motion Carried 6-0
