Minutes, Regular Meeting of the North Fayette Valley Community School District Board of Education, Monday, February 12, 2024, in the NFV High School Library, 600 N Pine Street, West Union, IA  52175

President Koch called the Regular Meeting of the NFV Board of Education to order at 5:30 pm.

 

Roll Call of Board members: Present: Koch, Rodgers, Nelson-Lerch, Klosterman, McGrane, & Marcks. Schultz was absent.  Klosterman led the board and audience in the pledge of allegiance.    

 

President Koch welcomed and invited comments from the Public.  

 

The agenda was approved with the modification to the Transfers on the consent agenda as presented.  Klosterman/Rodgers  Motion Carried 6-0

COMMUNICATIONS

 

Student Ex-Officio Members Avery Donnelly and Brooklyn Hoey briefed the board on the Winter Informal, winter sports updates, Mental Health Week, and advisory challenges. 

 

Principals’ reports included CTE clubs, Mental Health week events, Dollar for Scholars, Northeast Iowa Skilled Trades event, and upcoming FFA week.  Middle school updates included honor bands/choirs, guest speakers, 5th grade survival day, and MAP(Measure of Academic Performance) testing.  Elementary updates included FAST testing, instructional coaches helping with new math curriculum, TCLC, and VELC program success for students before and after school. 

Curriculum Director Nefzger spoke about the phonics programming, continued efforts with the new math curriculum, and upcoming training for paraprofessionals and teachers needed for the spring testing that will be taking place.  

 

Business Manager Stansbery reported on open enrollment billing, FY25 budget process, FY25 contract calculations, and year-to-date revenues compared to expenditures. 

 

Superintendent’s report included an update on the new camera systems, legislative updates regarding Area Education Agencies, base salary, and SSA. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

No old business to take action on. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

Board President Koch opened a public hearing regarding the adoption of the 2024-2025 school year calendar at 5:59pm.  McGrane/Nelson-Lerch Motion carried 6-0

 

Comments were made about the start date, parent/teacher conference dates, holiday breaks, snow days, and professional development time.  The public hearing was closed at 6:08pm.  Klosterman/Rodgers Motion carried 6-0

 

The board approved the FY25 Calendar as presented.  Klosterman/Marcks Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board set the first public hearing for the FY25 Budget process for March 25, 2024 at 5:30PM at the HS Library.  McGrane/Klosterman Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board set the second public hearing for the FY25 Budget process for April 8, 2024 at 5:30pm prior to the regular monthly board meeting.  McGrane/Klosterman  Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board reviewed the school bus bids and approved the purchase of one Blue Bird, 65 passenger bus, and one Blue Bird, 77 passenger bus for the 2024-2025 school year from School Bus Sales. Klosterman/Marcks  Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board approved the Apple Lease agreement for FY25 as presented.  McGrane/Nelson-Lerch Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board approved the first reading of policies 501.3, 505.8, and 505.8R1.  Klosterman/Nelson-Lerch  Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board approved the revised Consortium Agreement for Crossroads Academy.  Marcks/Klosterman Motion Carried 6-0

 

The board approved the new insurance rates for FY25 with an increase in district contribution from $675 to $734.  Klosterman/Marcks  Motion Carried 6-0
