President Koch called the Regular Meeting of the NFV Board of Education to order at 5:30 pm.
Roll Call of Board members: Present: McGrane, Marcks, Nelson-Lerch, Klosterman, Schultz, & Koch. Rodgers was absent. Director Klosterman led the pledge of allegiance.
President Koch welcomed and invited comments from the Public.

Motion to approve the consent agenda with the following items:

COMMUNICATIONS
Student Ex-Officio members were performing at the Upper Iowa Conference vocal festival.
High School Principal, Mr. Miller, reported on the Academic Award Assembly, National Honor Society induction, preparation for parent teacher conferences, upcoming career-related field trips, German exchange students, and the fall play. Middle School Principal, Mr. Gearhart, reported on the new attendance laws, MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports), fall sports, SEL (Social Emotional Learning), and recent culture club activities. Elementary Principal, Mr. Elliott, was not in attendance, but submitted a report on FAST testing, Leader in Me coaching visit, NFV preschool fair, homecoming week activities, the health initiative walk, Lydia circle donations, and fire safety week.
Curriculum Director Nefzger was not in attendance, but submitted a report to update the board on professional development, ISASP results, computer science curriculum, student attendance, and early literacy updates that include utilizing a program called EPS Reading Assistant.
Business Manager Stansbery reported on completion of the data collection for Fall BEDS, quarterly reporting for payroll, financial standing after completion of the first quarter of the fiscal year, and the upcoming 5 year budget projection workshop at the end of October.
Superintendent Griffith updated the board on the middle school football scoreboard and thanked Gregg Kleppe for volunteering to operate it for the past 42 years, the school safety grant funding, the anticipated work needed to update entryways, and the potential for a work session at the end of the November 11, 2024, regular meeting. Mr. Griffith also reported on certified enrollment numbers due October 15th.
OLD BUSINESS
The board approved the Second Reading of the 505 and 506 Series policy updates.

NEW BUSINESS
The board approved early graduation requests. Nelson-Lerch/Marcks Motion carried 6-0
The district’s administration is authorized to submit a request to the School Budget Review Committee for a modified supplemental amount of $7,400.00 for EL Excess Costs. The board approved the application to be submitted. Nelson-Lerch/McGrane Motion carried 6-0
The board approved the First Reading of the 507 and 508 series policies.
Schultz/Nelson-Lerch Motion carried 6-0
The board approved the First Reading of the 103 and 103-R1 policies.

The board approved the early retirement plan for the FY25 school year as presented.

The board approved setting a public hearing regarding adoption of the 2025-2026 school calendar for November 11, 2024 at 5:30pm at the regular board meeting. Schultz/Marcks Motion carried 6-0
The board approved the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan. Nelson-Lerch/Klosterman Motion carried 6-0
The board approved the copier lease agreement with MARCO. McGrane/Schultz Motion carried 6-0
