- Superintendent Just want to clarify my closure of buildings on April 8. We’ve been running in shut down mode for 3 weeks, and we’ve seen a stark increase in cases of COVID-19 in Iowa. Death rates are increasing and it seems right that they say the next 2-3 weeks will be the peak of this pandemic. In order to keep our staff as safe as they can be, I told then to stay out of the building from April 8 to April 27. I hope this can help to keep our people healthy and ready to go should we be called back to work in May. We will have a custodian doing building checks, the Central office will work a few days for payroll and bill paying functions, and the tech crew and cooks will keep the district running.
- OLD BUSINESS The first public Meeting is for the amendment of the FY20 budget. Our spending on the SAVE funds is over the amount budgeted for the year, so this is a required amendment. The second Public Hearing is to certify our Property tax rate for FY21. The tax certification document is in the packet.

- NEW BUSINESS
- Recommendation to Terminate Employee contract We do not have enough students to justify a 1.0 FTE ESL teacher (English as a Second Language). Megan DeBack is the instructor in that position, I am recommending a contract of 0.6 FTE for the coming year
- Update for Valley Day Care Not sure if there has been progress, but we’ll hear what has been done
- Consider bids on Valley Building roof repair I discussed this roofing project last month. We have a very good price on this bid, Both Moss Roofing and Imperial Roof Systems bid on the project. Moss’s bid of $86,000 plus the alternate bid of $31,000, for a total of $117,000 was the low bid. I recommend approval.
- Approve curriculum purchase Science curriculum materials, just over the limit of $10,000. This is an elementary curriculum that we really believe will make a difference in the sciences. I recommend approval.
- Approve AEA Purchasing Agreement 2020-21
- Consider extending resolution for pay during shutdown. I shared some talking points with you in an email, the same document is in the packet. With the amount of Money coming into the state I think we have a good chance at avoiding a cut next year due to all the unemployment that is currently happening. I recommend we continue with the resolution to April 30.
- Consider resolution to waive required hours and days
- Consider Hazard pay for Cooks during COVID-19 shutdown During this entire shut down the Cooks have been working regularly and I believe we need to support their efforts out in the public with a recognition of what I’ll call hazard pay. The meals program is growing, and with over 300 lunches served we believe it is an essential service. I am recommending a temporary increase of $2.50 per hour for the food services. Our reimbursed lunches will be covering this expense.
- Consider additional vacation days, custodians. When the shutdown hit, the only people in the buildings for that first week were secretaries and custodians. At that time the custodians were given a list of projects to keep them going as long as we could. As soon as we get passed this peak time, we will put them back in the buildings first. I am recommending an extra 5 days of vacation for this group, to be used up until the end of next fiscal year, June 30, 2021.
- Receive NFVEA Proposal This would be the beginning of our negotiations season. The NFVEA leadership approached me about just having a statement of purpose for the starting date. I have enclosed my statement in the packet. We should set a meeting date at this time.
